What is Space Tourism?

Space tourism is human space travel for recreational purposes. There are several different types of space tourism, including orbital, suborbital, and lunar space tourism. To date, only orbital space tourism has been performed by the Russian Space Agency. Work also continues towards developing suborbital space tourism vehicles. This is being done by aerospace companies like Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic.

Where did the term "Space Tourism" come from?

The concept has existed in science fiction for decades. The first space tourist was Dennis Tito, who funded his own trip to the International Space Station in 2001.

How is "Space Tourism" used today?

With the entry of private companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic, space tourism is becoming more accessible, though it remains an expensive luxury.
